The Riverbanks Zoo and Garden offers a bit of both the animal kingdom and botanical world. The park also offers interactive one-hour encounters with some of the animals and multiple themed-gardens unique to the area. Riverbanks Zoo and Garden also offers zip tours across the zoo or the Saluda River, for those who are looking for outdoor excitement.

Finlay Park is a popular outdoor attraction located in the heart of Columbia. This historical 18-acre park has been through rough patches of history. Finlay Park was first opened in 1859 as Sidney Park, closed down because of the Civil War, then re-established as Finlay Park in 1990. Today, Finlay Park boasts of having beautiful trees, 2 playground areas, a man-made lake, waterfalls, a fountain, and playing fields. It’s a great place to enjoy a stroll around the park and have a photo session.

Congaree National Park is the largest bottomland hardwood forest of its kind remaining in the southeastern United States. It also features a dog park for those who like to travel with their faithful companion. A day trip to Sesqui is a great way to get away from Columbia and enjoy some of nature’s finest views.

Saluda Shoals Park is a riverfront park that offers plenty of natural attractions. This 400-acre park features great areas for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Other park amenities include water activities, the Saluda Splash pad, a playground, and the Barking Lot Dog Park.
The Barking Lot Park is a premium dog park with fenced areas and three small bone shaped pools for dogs to cool off. All dog owners must pay a small daily fee or annual fee to get into the dog park.
Lake Murray is a popular spot for both humans and wildlife during the hot summer months. With dozens of marinas around the lake, the destination is also perfect for boat launches and fishing. There are also several parks and recreation areas where visitors can take their children and spend the day cooling off in the water or having a cookout.
